Creating a great, engaging website for your school undoubtedly takes a lot of hard work and thought. If you want to make sure you are providing parents with all the information they need, regular reviews of the content you supply are important.

So is considering how users access your site in the first place, however.

The idea of responsive websites has been around for quite a while. Many schools unfortunately still don’t really understand what this means and how important it is.

What is a Mobile Responsive Website?

Since the smartphone splashed onto the market over ten years ago, web developers have had something of a problem. How do you make a website look just as good on a mobile phone or tablet as it does on a large pc screen? Different size screens require different coding to ensure that text can be read, links activated and videos played.

This led to the development of mobile ready websites. Without the right coding, if someone accesses your website on a smartphone, they can’t see the text clearly and the site is generally difficult to navigate. For most new sites using the latest templates, this is already built into the coding so that, whatever device is being used, the pages can be easily accessed and used.

Why is it Important?

Most of us nowadays use our mobile phone or tablet to search the web. We shop, play games and send messages on social media, all from this one device. When you understand that the majority of parents are likely to access your site using their phone, it makes sense to pay special attention to how your content appears on them.

An unresponsive school website is not going to provide for those who regularly access the internet through their mobile device. It simply means that you are going to have far too much information for such a small screen.

The good news is that the underlying software for mobile ready sites has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years. And it’s not that difficult or costly to implement.

Does Your School Website Need a Review?

It’s not always just the content that can be a problem when it comes to your school website. If you haven’t updated the design in the last few years, it may be that your site already looks a little outdated. The easiest way to find out if you have a responsive design is to open up your pages, on different devices, including tablets and smartphones, and see how easy they are to read.

At Parentapps, we’re always looking at ways to add value for our customers and providing a website review is another way of doing just that. We can take a look at your school website content and check that you have all the appropriate pages in place. But we can also review the underlying software to ensure that you are fully responsive.
